Amanda Jo(AJ) Boener, 37

Profile

With a degree in Digital Photography & lifelong commitment to art of many forms, the practice of photography has played a role in her life throughout adulthood; from assisting photographers in Chicago, running her own small business in her hometown while raising littles, working for a local live performing arts center, to promoting the work being done at the farm-her desire to photograph comes from the joy in telling a compelling, honest story. Her passion for raising their children connected with the land took center stage at their time on the farm- choosing to wild school their kids since birth. Through the work being done at the school she opened, she became a National Geographic Certified Educator. She was also a very active Purdue Advanced Master Gardener, assisting as vice president for two years, volunteering often, & organizing community projects to help activate and engage the community in edible gardening. She has years of experience designing, cultivating, & tending to their permaculture farm, with projects like; rainwater collecting, composting, vegetable gardening in raised beds, forest gardening, heirloom seed-starting and saving, creating and maintaining a herb spiral, growing cultivated mushrooms, beekeeping, and some animal husbandry. She also specializes in teaching about wild edible plants & mushrooms of the Midwest, working as an herbalist with the medicinal properties as well. She is also a writer, maintained a blog while at the farm for a few years as well as blogging online for Mother Earth News Magazine. She is also a Reiki Level I Practitioner, has experience leading guided mediations, and created and ran a thriving women’s listening circle for over 9 years. Alongside the programs at the farm, she has lead many various art & nature-connected children’s programs at her local library, art centers & mindfulness centers, festivals, park departments, & museums. With a passion for treating children respectfully, valuing their perspectives, and desire to help make all children she meets feel acknowledged, her ability to connect with kids clearly comes from a place of joy. She loves to make plant-based and gluten-free meals for her family & friends that taste delicious! Preparing & sharing a meal with others is truly something she finds immense purpose in. When their family decided to sell the farm & explore the country, she designed & helped build their first skoolie, which they sold in 2023 & designed the complete build of their second skoolie as well. With a love for great composition & functional spaces that feel great(!) & serve their families needs in a eco-friendly way, designing their dream home-on-wheels was a perfect fit for her. Aligning with her desire to create positive changes where she can & do work that fills her with presence & contentment, in early 2023 she obtained her Permaculture Design Certification through a 6 month long course, after practicing & teaching permaculture for many years prior. In 2023 they chose Florida to root back down to & has been active in continuing her work to Cultivate Community, Celebrate Curiosity, & Nurture Wonder, with Nature through many classes, hikes, tours, talks, & hosting of community building gatherings. She now resides in Downtown Brooksville with her family on a quiet, historic brick street, where she is implementing her permaculture design & developing the land/home as a space where she hold space for teaching, knowledge sharing, deep listening, & inspiration. In 2025 she founded A Wild Home, LLC & continues the work she is passionate about to carry out her mission- offering their second Wild School for kids, while also offering various workshops & hosting community building events through the Wild School of Hernando County Group she facilitates.
